The course is based on the most current research in rider safety and utilizes modern training methods.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eYou may choose from classes that have in person classroom sessions or online classroom sessions, but \u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #ff0000;\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eALL beginning classes consist of two IN PERSON riding sessions ON A MOTORCYCLE\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"UTF-8\"\u003eBeginning courses with an \u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eonline classroom\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e require completion of a minimum of the first two chapters of eRider, an interactive computer program eRider before attending two IN PERSON riding sessions of about 5 hours each.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e  \u003c\/span\u003eYou will be taking the written test as you progress though the course.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e  \u003c\/span\u003eThe riding test is given at the end of the second riding session, and eRider must be completed by midnight of that day.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e  See\u003c\/span\u003e below for details.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCourses with \u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ein person classroom\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e sessions are usually scheduled over a two to four day period and include \u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003etwo IN PERSON classroom sessions\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e of about 3 hours each \u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eand two IN PERSON riding sessions\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e of about 5 hours each.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e  \u003c\/span\u003eA written test is given at the end of the second classroom session and a riding test is given at the end of the second riding session.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e \u003cmeta charset=\"UTF-8\"\u003eSee below for details.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you want to get into the earliest possible class, you may make \u003cmeta charset=\"UTF-8\"\u003earrangements with our office to come for free as a standby student.  You \u003cb\u003e\u003cu\u003eMUST\u003c\/u\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e go through the office in order to use this option.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIf you are in a hurry it is usually possible to pick your certificate up at our office on Treasure Island a few days after your class ends, but since the pick up schedule varies quite a lot, you MUST verify with the office to check how soon after your particular class ends that you will be able to pick it up if you are counting on that.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e  \u003c\/span\u003eIf you do not verify you will be able to pick it up when you need to and\/or you do not pass, you will not be able to pick the certificate up no matter what arrangements you have made, and a refund or reschedule will not be an option, but we will do our best to accommodate you once you do pass as a standby.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTo get the most out of your classroom and riding sessions and so be more likely to pass them, study the MTC Handbook and the DMV Handbook, since some of the test questions on our test are from the DMV Driver’s handbook.  Links for both handbooks are provided when you register for the class.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMany students find that the security measures at their workplace prevent their ability to see\/read\/download the handbooks from this Dropbox link. If you are having trouble, try opening your confirmation letter away from your workplace.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIf you pass our class, you will still need to take the DMV's written test, since there is no way out of taking that.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e  \u003c\/span\u003eFor that reason we recommend going to the DMV after you receive our certificate, since you will generally only need to make one visit if you wait until you have the DL389.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e  \u003c\/span\u003ePlease consult the DMV for details and requirements that are individual to your situation, since we are not able to speak for the DMV and\/or predict all of the licensing requirements for every student.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIf you feel you need a translator for Spanish or any other language, please call the office ahead of time to make arrangements to have a friend who can translate for you to attend sessions with you. If you do not make arrangements ahead of time we will not be able to let your friend attend.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe purpose of this class is to create safer riders out of the average beginning motorcyclist, not to make it easy to get a license.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e  \u003c\/span\u003eWhile most beginning students are riding within the first few exercises and are able to pass this class the first time they take it, since everyone learns at a different pace it is not uncommon for students that need more repetition to be counseled out.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIf you are counseled out or are not able to pass the first time through, our school allows students to come back for \u003cem\u003eno additional fee\u003c\/em\u003e as a standby student as many times as they would like in a 6 month period, but \u003cstrong\u003ethere is still no guarantee you will pass this class!\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eStudents get what they put into the class!\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e  Students\u003c\/span\u003e that are counseled out that make a commitment to studying, listening and coming back often to improve their skills usually pass within a week after their original class ends.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e  Refer to\u003c\/span\u003e your follow up email for information about the fastest way to come back.  If you have any questions, call the office any time from 8am-5pm Mon-Fri for clarification.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eEnd times are approximate and your class may go longer than expected, depending upon weather, number of questions, and many other variables. It is unusual to go over the time allotted, but if it does happen we still cannot pass you if you miss any portion of the class, no matter how good the reason for which you must leave or how well you are doing. a standby fee to come back if you are unprepared, unsafe(on purpose or otherwise), unable to follow directions, argumentative and\/or the instructor believes you are impaired\/intoxicated in any manner with any drug, including alcohol or any other legal, illegal, prescription or over- the- counter substance(s) or you choose to leave before class is excused.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eExperienced riders that are over 21 are eligible to take the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/motorcycleschool.com\/products\/intermediate-riding-course\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e1 Day Intermediate Riding Clinic(1DPC)\u003c\/a\u003e to get their license instead, but if you are uncertain which class to take, we highly recommend the beginning class, since even riders with 30-40 years of experience report improving their riding skills considerably.\u003cspan class.  It will be sent in your confirmation email as soon as you register.  Please sign it right away.  If you are under 18 both you and your legal guardian MUST come to the first in person session with your IDs even if they have signed the waiver.  We cannot reschedule or refund a minor that arrives unprepared without a legal guardian to sign for them at the first meeting, but they may still return as standby for a reduced fee.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eBIKE\u003c\/strong\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e- We provide motorcycles or scooters to all beginning students, but scooters are only available in our SF and Alameda locations.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e  Since supply is limited, unless you are in the scooter only class, you \u003c\/span\u003emust confirm availability of a scooter with the office two weeks before your class starts or you will not be guaranteed that one will be \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eavailable.  If you are in the scooter only class, scooters will be provided automatically.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eYou may not ride your own motorcycle in our beginning classes.  If you would like to ride your own scooter you must get it approved by the office at least two weeks before the class begins.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eIDENTIFICATION \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e- You do not need a permit, license or any experience whatsoever riding a motorcycle or any sort of motor vehicle to take our beginning class- you or your parent\/guardian only need to provide a valid, government issued photo ID and be at least 15.5 years of age.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e  \u003c\/span\u003eIf you do not have a government- issued photo ID for any reason, please call the office to make sure we are able to let you into class before you sign up.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGEAR \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e- \u003c\/strong\u003eWe are not allowed to let anyone ride without the proper protective clothing.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e  \u003c\/span\u003eProtective street motorcycle gear is always acceptable for taking our class, but gear that is motorcycle style is almost never protective, and so is almost never acceptable.  For a complete guide to gear that is actually \u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003eprotective\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e instead of merely ‘motorcycle \u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003estyle\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e’ consult the section on gear in the MTC Handbook, which will be provided in a link in your confirmation email when you sign up.  \u003cspan\u003eYour instructors do not want to be decertified or to disappoint you and counsel you out(make you leave the class) any more than you do, so be sure to test that target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eHELMETS \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e-Full-coverage and DOT-compliant helmets will be provided.  BAMT does not allow helmets that are not full face or DOT compliant. If you would like to bring your own full face or modular helmet you may, but if the instructor cannot confirm that it meets our requirements, you will be required to use one of ours.  If you bring a modular helmet you will be required to keep the chin bar in the locked position at all when seated on the motorcycle, even if the engine is off.  If you are not able to adhere to this you will have to wear one of our helmets or you will be counseled out of the class.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSHIRT or JACKET\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e- Full-sleeves that allow no skin of your wrists or waist showing when seated on the motorcycle when your arms are outstretched to ride are required at all times.  Many times it is not obvious until the class has been going on for a while that your sleeves or torso of your shirt is too short.  that your shirt will not ride up by sitting on a chair with your arms outstretched to the sky as much as possible, then, keeping your arms outstretched,  bend forward until your torso is parallel to the floor, then bend your elbows in toward your body.  If your shirt does not cover your back or wrist at any point it may not cover you adequately during class.  \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSince temperatures fluctuate quite a bit through out the day all layers should be full sleeved.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDURABLE PANTS\u003c\/strong\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e-Pants must cover all of the leg when seated on the motorcycle with feet up on the foot pegs - no skin\/socks, etc. showing.  Denim jeans or motorcycle pants made out of abrasion resistant material and armor are acceptable.  We will not allow you to ride in off road motorcycle pants, stretch pants or stretch fabric (including jeggings), or ANY pants with rips, tears, or any sort of holes, no matter the material.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGLOVES\u003c\/strong\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e-Full- fingered, 100% leather work gloves are acceptable and can usually be found at any hardware store. Off-road motorcycle gloves, leather dress gloves, ski gloves, and work gloves of any material other than leather will NOT be accepted.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eFOOTWEAR \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e-Only sturdy, over-the-ankle, snug fitting, reinforced footwear that supports the ankle will be accepted. Most laced and tied hiking boots or high tops will do as long as they fit snugly around the ankle with thick, padded\/reinforced material so that your ankle bone cannot be felt. They must also be laced up so the sides are snug against the foot\/ankle in order to provide ankle support. High tops or boots that merely cover the ankle and\/or are worn in such a way that does not provide \u003cstrong\u003eankle \u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003esupport\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e will NOT be accepted(ie: Chuck Taylor high tops, Uggs, cowboy boots, boots with elastic on the ankle, high tops that are loosely tied, etc.).\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eRAIN GEAR\u003c\/strong\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e-\u003cspan style=\"color: #ff2a00;\"\u003eWe do NOT cancel for rain\u003c\/span\u003e. Please ask your instructor for one if you do not see it with the English workbooks.
