We cannot let you into class without the minimum ‘gear’ requirements

Clothing labeled ‘motorcycle’ is often motorcycle ’STYLE’ or it is off road motorcycle gear. Motorcycle style is almost never protective. Off- road motorcycle gear is designed to protect riders that are riding in the dirt, which has completely different needs. Neither are acceptable for wearing in our class.

Street- specific motorcycle protective gear fits your body in a seated position and has armor. It is not required to get into our riding sessions, but is always allowed.

Street specific motorcycle gear can be very expensive and should fit you and your bike.

Since we are allowed to let you wear clothing that is usually already in your closet or can be found cheaply, we strongly recommend that you complete our class before you go and spend a lot of money on gear or a bike, especially if you are new to riding.

PLEASE NOTE: If there is even a little bit of the skin of your wrists or skin/sock of your leg or any thing other than your neck is showing, we are not allowed to let you continue. We do NOT want to send you home!! Please read the requirements and directions carefully and do not put us in the position of having to counsel you out!!

Helmet

Only full face helmets will be accepted. The chin bar of modular helmets must be locked in place at ALL times while you are mounted on the motorcycle, even if the motorcycle is turned off. PLEASE NOTE: We offer a variety of helmet sizes ranging from XS to XXL. If you require a helmet size outside of this range, you should plan to bring your own helmet

Shirt/Jacket

A full-sleeved and high- cut shirt and/or jacket that allows no skin(including wrists, back and parts of your chest) showing when seated on the motorcycle when your arms are outstretched to ride is required at all times you are seated on the motorcycle. Shirt and/or jacket must be long enough in the body and arms so no skin shows when you are seated in the proper riding position. Test your shirt by wearing all of the gear you plan to bring to class. Your back and wrists most both be covered COMPLETELY when you

  1. bend forward and touch your toes with your legs straight
  2. sit in a chair with your knees at least 6inches apart and then bend forward and touch your heels

If you are having trouble getting a shirt that do not show your back, wrists, or skin anywhere else when you are in either of these positions you can also compensate by having gauntlet gloves, as long as those gloves still meet the glove requirements

Durable Pants

Denim jeans must cover all of the leg when seated on the motorcycle with feet up on both foot pegs with no skin/socks, etc. showing at all times. Pants must be denim or street motorcycle specific and high- waisted enough and long enough in the legs so no skin shows when you are in the proper riding position. No part of your back or your socks/ankles may show when you are wearing all of the gear you plan to wear in class and you

  1. bend forward and touch your toes with your legs straight
  2. sit in a chair with your knees at least 6inches apart and then bend forward and touch your heels

If you are having trouble getting pants that do not show your ankles or socks when you are in either of these positions you can also compensate by having taller boots, as long as those boots still meet the footwear requirements

Gloves

Only full- fingered, 100% leather work gloves or street specific motorcycle gloves are acceptable

Footwear

Only sturdy, over-the-ankle, snug fitting, reinforced footwear with good traction that SUPPORTS the ankle will be accepted. Most laced and tied hiking boots will do as long as they fit snugly around the ankle with thick, padded/reinforced material so that your ankle bone cannot be felt. They must be fastened so the sides are snug against the foot/ankle in order to provide ankle support. Covering the ankle without support will NOT be accepted

Rain Gear

We do NOT cancel for rain so arrive prepared
